Architectural Representational Modelling

During my first semester studying my masters at UWE I was part of an exhibition of speculative drawings. For this module we had the chance to explore theories and concepts of representation. It was up to us how we displayed our findings. The final piece was a 50 x 50 cm piece expressing our chosen topic. I decided to explore the concept of Holism and how it can be applied to almost everything on Earth. Below is a short abstract which explains my piece in greater detail with images of the final product further below.

Holis + The Butterfly Effect

As our population grows exponentially, we’re using precious finite resources at unprecedented rates. Our waste is growing and our planet is heating up. All the beautifully interconnected, self-regulating systems on Earth are suddenly struggling to cope and things are becoming unbalanced an inharmonious.

I explored the idea of holism and the environment through marbling. The idea that one singular drop of ink can change the feel / composition and aesthetics of the picture so drastically is a metaphor for how our small actions and decisions we’re making collectively every day are affecting our planet.
